A college degree has long represented the gold standard for career preparedness. Employers consider it the default indicator of competence, and young people keep being told it is the sole route to financial well-being. Yet, in this current system employers can’t find enough workers with the skills they need, too many college graduates are saddled with crushing debt and limited job prospects, and technology is evolving in ways that leave workers at risk of falling behind.
At a panel moderated by Laura Maristany, Founder & CEO of Katch Skills that was also attended by others leaders in policy, education and workforce strategy, we debated how a skills-first economy can serve both supply and demand for talent more effectively.
